The Jabbers & The Murder Junkies, Live at The Middle East, Cambridge MA, 6.29.03

I would never begrudge anyone's right to make an honest living but I think I have finally satisfied my curiosity about the whole GG Allin legend. Seeing GG's first band the Jabbers here with Wimpy on vocals as a clothed GG in Las Vegas two weeks ago got me about as close to the real experience as I think I'll endure ever getting. Scott, formerly from Meatwagon, interviewed the band for this mag you now hold around the pool at Terrible's Casino where everyone stayed and in the next issue we'll probably get that along with some photos. But I tell ya, the GG lore will just keep coming if you let it. I think Chris said it perfectly well, "He'll be 36 forever." And he'll be imitated by bands that like to shock for a while to come. Curtis from TKO records told me that Wimpy's beating himself in the forehead with his mic as the end of the set came was a ritual started by GG. Maybe GG had a thicker head, dear readers, but the next day at the pool I saw the results and it looked like a big puffy curling iron burn, the type high-school girls used to get back in the early-80's when they didn't know how to curl their hair right. Wimpy said it was "bruised" but check the photo of him in the photo page from COS and it looks like Roy Horn's tiger got hold of him. Extreme rock, to be sure. Here in this video is 18 or so songs by the Jabbers among them being "Drink, Fight & Fuck" and "High on Drugs", plus a cover of "Now I Wanna Be Your Dog" by Iggy Pop (which went over great at The Boston in Las Vegas as it does here). This VHS also has the Murder Junkies (GG's last band) on it with the imposing image of Jeff Clayton from ANTiSEEN on vocals, and Merle and Dino the naked drummer. The handheld video camera quality is pretty bad. It starts out all shaky and tilting but gets better a little. Just pretend you're there at the Middle East and all drunk. It's a bit of extreme rock that deserves to be out there, if only as a warning and reminder of the depths to which it can sink.
